Oldham Council has carried out improvements on a junction at Grains Bar.
The work, which cost £20,000, has seen a traffic island and high visibility bollards put in place.
Bend warning signs and enhanced hazard markings and red surfacing have also been installed.
Over the last few years a number of crashes have occurred in the area around Ripponden Road.
Road safety engineers have determined that these incidents were caused by drivers losing control of their vehicles due to excessive speed or failing to respond to changes in the highway.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet Member for Housing, Planning and Transport, said: “In the last five years there haven’t been any reported accidents involving injuries at this location but we do know that a number of crashes have resulted in damage to nearby properties.
“Our officers have looked at this data, as well as taking on board the views of local residents, and have come up with this new layout which includes enhanced signage and improvements.
“However, I would like to remind motorists that not all accidents can be addressed by these measures – speeding and people not concentrating on the road have been identified as the causes in a number of recent crashes.
“Please drive responsibly and keep within the speed limit when on our roads.”
