On Monday night a number of people gathered at the war memorial on Pots and Pans in Uppermill, to watch the lighting of a beacon as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The event was made possible by local farmer Chris Crowther, who took up the burner and other equipment.

The beacon was lit by local businessman Frank Rothwell, and loud cheers rang out as the beacon ignited.

The ceremony lasted for around an hour and then people departed.
