Two Liberal Democrat Councillors have pledged to fund a World War One exhibition at a Dobcross Church.

Holy Trinity Church are staging ‘Lest we forget’ on Saturday 13 September at 7:30pm to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War One.

The church are also aiming to stage an exhibition of World War One memorabilia during the weekend as well.

The evening will have music from Dobcross Youth Band, a song of peace from children as well as footage from the war, poems, facts etc.

In order to make this event possible Liberal Democrat Councillors Derek Heffernan and Garth Harkness have pledged to finance the event.

Cllr Derek Heffernan said: “It is important that we understand and learn from the past an important part of conveying the message will be the ability to show video footage and photographic stills as part of an overall presentation and this costs money but it is important event we want to make sure happens.”

Cllr Garth Harkness added: “After 100 years since the great war we no longer have any veterans left but we need to remember those who fell and understand the reality of the war to ensure we learn lessons. The current conflicts in Gaza show the catastrophic effects of war. Events like this are important in helping us remember and reflect on the realities of war.”
