Three members of Delph band received lifetime achievement awards in March at the North West Area Contest at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

Delph Band were in the second section and had to play a piece called Chaucer’s Tunes. The band had been working very hard on the piece the weeks before the contest. They were placed 9th out of 16 bands – contesting does not always go your way!

On the same day three of their players were presented with Long Service Awards:

Lorraine Valentine is their Flugel player and has been playing with Delph Band for 40 years. She started playing as a young girl with the band in 1974. Lorraine is also the Band Secretary and puts a lot of time and effort into booking concerts and orgnanising things. Lorraine was awarded with a framed certificate for her 40 years of service to banding.

Keith Palmer was also awarded the 40 year long-service award. Keith joined the same year as Lorraine, 1974, and too has only ever played with Delph Band. Keith is our principal euphonium player and key member of the band. Keith was awarded with a framed certificate for his 40 years of service to banding.

David Bamford was awarded the Diamond Award for 60 years service to banding. Dave started playing with his father as a young boy and has played with numerous bands over the years. Dave is their Eb Bass player. Dave was presented with a framed certificate and a medal for his long service to banding.

Their conductor Philip Goodwin told Saddleworth News: “I’m delighted that such outstanding loyalty and commitment has been recognised. For Lorraine and Keith to have dedicated 40 years service to just one organisation is a remarkable achievement. Dave has served many bands with distinction but since joining Delph in 1989 he has been an integral and invaluable member of the band. I’m looking forward to many more years service to come from these three exceptional players.”

The band has recently re-vamped it’s website www.delphband.co.uk and now has Twitter and Facebook pages; twitter.com/delphband and www.facebook.com/Delphband

They advertise their concerts and any vacancies on these pages.
