Man sought after rape in the city centre

Saddleworth newsPolice investigating a city centre rape still want to speak to a man.

At around 5.35am on Saturday 18 November 2017, police received a report of a concern for the welfare of a 27-year-old woman in the city centre.
Initial enquiries revealed the woman had been raped sometime in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Officers are specifically piecing together information between 12.20am and 4.30am that morning to gain a fuller picture of what happened and still need to speak to a man they have released an image of.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Constable Paula Mannion of GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “Thanks to people sharing the pictures we released, we have been able to identify a man we wanted to speak to, who has been very helpful with our investigation.
“We still need to speak to the man pictured to be able to move forward with our enquiries and need people who know him or recognise him to call us.
“We believe the man was in Cane and Grain bar on Thomas Street at around 12.30am that morning – if you were there around that time, please look at the image and see whether it jogs your memory.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 1911 quoting reference number 490 of 18/11/17 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
