Marathon Man’s Fundraising Effort

A Saddleworth man has secured a place on next year’s London Marathon, and is hoping to raise more than £2,000 for a leading cancer charity. Mike Bundy has organised a raffle to help his fundraising efforts, and is appealing for local people to support him.

Mike has already run the marathon twice before, and said: “It’s been a long time  ambition to run it just once  more before my knees pack in. It’s taken me three years to just secure a place, and three years of persuading my wife to let me to do it again!”

Mike is raising the money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Although he has pledged to raise £2,000, he hopes to get a lot more than that, and added that he had a “great response” from local businesses when he asked for raffle prizes.

Tickets for the raffle cost £2 and can be bought from Mike directly by ringing 07843 603845. Among the prizes up for grabs are a flight with Pennine Helicopters of Diggle, a wedding pictures package from Wilkinson Photography in Greenfield, a tapas meal at the Bulls Head in Delph, and a month’s membership of the Viking Gym in Lees.

Mike’s also secured tickets for Oldham Athletic football and Lancashire cricket matches as prizes. The draw will be made in January, while the marathon itself takes place in April.
