Marathon training with the Chill Factor
Runners took part in a training exercise at the Chill Factor in Manchester last night to prepare for a North Pole Marathon next year.
The Marathon will raise money for various charities in memory of PC Nicola Hughes from Saddleworth who was killed on duty.
Nicola’s father Bryn Hughes, wife Natalie and son Sam, as well as friend Rob Stapleton, took to the icy slopes of the complex to train for the event.
They ran a number of times up and down the steep slope with the temperature at a modest minus 4 degrees C, compared to the North Pole at around minus 40 degrees C, when they arrive.
The chill factor have kindly allowed them to use the facilities free of charge outside of the centres normal opening hours.
Bryn told Saddleworth News: “This is very hard training here tonight but we have to do it, and we are thankful to everyone that is helping us and especially the Chill Factor for allowing us to train here free tonight. The North Pole Marathon will create a lasting legacy for Nicola.”
