Marsden Jazz Festival This Weekend

One of the highlights of the local cultural calendar takes place this weekend. It’s the Marsden Jazz Festival, which is marking its 20th year.

More than 70 events will take place in and around the village across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with 7,000 visitors expected to see something of the festival. Gigs are scheduled for venues large and small, ranging from the Mechanics Institute to street performances.

Among the main attractions this year will be established jazz performers including Kenny Ball, who headlines tomorrow night at the Mechanics. Ben Crosland, Liane Carroll, Asaf Sirkis and Soweto Kinch will also be performing at various times over the weekend.

There’ll also be a celebratory ‘All-Stars’ gig to close the festival, featuring at least twenty musicians from across the three days.

For a full line-up of gigs, as well as details on tickets where those are needed, visit the official website here. The festival box office can be reached on 01484 430528, while the main festival office number for other inquiries is 01484 846969.
