Police And Councillors To Meet Public On Uppermill Barge

Saddleworth residents will get the chance to talk to the local police, councillors and others on board a barge in Uppermill.

The novel event will take place on Thursday 13 October between 12 noon and 3pm on the Pennine Moonraker, which will be moored up next to the museum.

It’s the latest in the regular series of Partners and Community Together meetings, otherwise known as PACTs. Following poor attendance levels at traditional evening meetings, a variety of other methods have been tried, including two successful events held online.

As well as police, councillors and council officials, representatives from the NHS, Energy Saving Trust and the RSPB team from Dove Stone Reservoir will also be taking part.

The idea is that anyone can go along and chat with them about local issues, over a free cuppa.

The Uppermill meeting is being held as part of Oldham’s Local Democracy Week, which runs from Monday 10 to Friday 14 October.

Another notable event taking place on Thursday is a live question-and-answer session with the Oldham Council Cabinet, which will take place between 6pm and 8pm. You’ll be able to watch it as it happens on the council website.

More details of how you can submit questions for that event, as well as about the rest of Local Democracy Week, are available from the council here.

Thvents are poorly attended because they are talking shop exercises.

The public turn up, ask the police questions, get fobbed off, the police don’t deal with the issues and people stop attending.

I know because I’ve been there / done that.
