More Wind & Rain – Thursday 20th February 2020 – Sunday 23rd February 2020

Hi all,

OK, I’ve had enough. It’s cold, it’s miserable and the forecast doesn’t get any better. I’m ready for Spring now. Who remembers late-February last year? We enjoyed warm sunshine. What I would give for those conditions right now (I’d be on the golf course!). Meanwhile the risk of localised flooding continues.

Thursday: The morning sees an active band of squally rain move southeast. Initially quite mild but much colder air will arrive by lunchtime after the rain has moved through. Some sleet or snow on the back edge can’t be ruled out, especially above 200M. Sunny spells and scattered wintry showers for the afternoon with hail and thunder & lightning. Feeling cold in a gusty west-to-northwesterly wind. Max 8°C (in the morning)

Friday: Milder with strong southwesterly winds, gusting to 40mph. Cloudy with rain at times but initially most of the rain is likely to fall in the hills and on exposed southwest-facing areas. Therefore the rain-shadow might come into play again keeping it ‘drier’ around Manchester/west of Oldham. The rain will move on through overnight giving a spell of heavy rain for all. Max 10°C

Weekend: Windy with more rain.

Saturday: Some rain to start. Staying mostly cloudy, odd bright spell during the day with a few showers. Very windy with 45mph gusts. Max 9°C

Sunday: Windy with periods of rain but winds not as strong. Max 9°C

Outlook: Bright spells and showers, come wintry midweek. Remaining breezy. No sign of colder, snowy weather, nor warmer and settled.
