Dovestone WI celebrate their first birthday

Dovestone WI formed one year ago this March. They’ve sent us details about what they’ve been up to and more……

Thanks to the support from the Saddleworth community for our Coffee Morning and Justgiving page, we raised a grand total of £937 for a memorial bench for our local legend PC Martin ‘Warby’ Warburton . The Dovestone WI ‘Ice and Fire’ first Birthday Fundraising Ball takes place on Friday the 24th April at the White Hart, Lydgate. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Skullfades and MASH. Information regarding these two worthwhile causes are on our website and Facebook page. Thisis black tie event with a four course meal and entertainment by the brilliant ‘Red on Black’. At the Monday Meetup on the 2nd March at the Reclamation Rooms, our members will continue making plarn (plastic yarn) from plastic bags to be crocheted into plastic sleeping mats for the homeless. There will be another chance to learn macramé plus the Bookworms book club meet from 7pm till 8 pm followed by The Dovestone Divas singers from 8.15p.m to 9.00p.m. This is free to members and £2 for guests .This is a great opportunity to make friends and chat over coffee and cake.


On the last Sunday of each month we will be supporting Vintage Rewind for The Yackety Yak Initiative at Boarshurst Band Club,entry £5 including cakes and biscuits from 12p.m.-3p.m. If you suffer from loneliness come along to this friendly monthly social gathering ,listen to music from the 40s,50s and 60s, maybe try a few dance steps and make new friends.
In June, we are collaborating with Saddleworth and Oldham Rotary at the 2020 Saddleworth Show with approximately 35 stalls in The Dovestone WI Country Corner. For further stall information please visit our Facebook page and posts.


Tuesday, 17th March we welcome Catrin Aherne from the Clink Restaurant, Styal ( charity of the year in North East Cheshire) with her talk “Serving Thyme reduces reoffending.” The restaurant training and support changes attitudes and transforms lives.


In the pipeline – a foodie fish,chip and quiz night;a Krav Maga self defence workshop, a Burlesque Fitness Fan Dancing Class ; a gin event (at least one!) day trips and theatre trips. We encourage friendship and mutual support and new members and guests are very welcome at our monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month in the Wimberry suite at the Royal George Greenfield. Please register in the downstairs bar from 7 p.m to start at 7.30 p.m. There is a monthly donation of a £1 for members and £3 for non-members. We look forward to seeing you there.
