New Baby And Toddler Shop Opens In Uppermill

Another new shop has opened in Uppermill. Rob Woollin has set up Countryside Kids next to the Civic Hall at the top of Court Street, selling all kinds of baby and toddler goods from nursery furniture to traditional wooden toys.

Rob, who lives in Dobcross with his wife Leesa and two children, opened the doors of his new venture last weekend. In an interview with Saddleworth News yesterday, he said he decided to start his own business because he’d “always worked for other people… I just decided enough was enough.” Rob left his last job in November and has been working towards setting up on his own ever since.

There’s a wide range of furniture in stock, including prams, cots and high chairs, while the shop also sells wooden and traditional toys, and gift sets aimed at mums and dads. Rob added: “We can get everything. If we’ve not got it there’s a good chance we’ll be able to get it.”

Toy shops run in Leesa’s family, with both her mum and brother already running businesses elsewhere in the north of England. Rob said he noticed there weren’t any other specialist shops in Saddleworth selling items such as baby furniture, and decided to take one of four retail units in the refurbished top end of Court Street. A hair and beauty salon has two of the units, with the developers themselves currently in the other one.

Rob’s shop is the latest in a series of businesses to open in Uppermill recently. A sweet shop, cupcake shop and an ice cream and coffee parlour have all begun trading, and Rob said he felt it was a “vibrant and exciting” team for the village. He added that he’d received several good luck messages from other shops in the area.

Rob and Leesa moved into the area six years ago. He said: “We love the area, coming off the motorway it just relaxes you. It’s fitting we can be in Uppermill. Our aim is to become part of the local community.”

    Welcome and good luck!
Nice to see the number of small businesses growing in Uppermill.

I hope you can entice trade from the High Street up to the top of Court Street, I’m sure the other businesses on that street would also benefit from you opening.

Hopefully all businesses in the village can benefit each other. Just whats needed – more shops to bring people into the village.
