New Bin Collections To Begin

Oldham Council’s new regime of bin collections takes effect tomorrow. The main change is that, from now on, residents will be able to recycle their food and garden waste together.

Householders can now either put their food waste caddy or their green garden bin out every week, but not both. An information pack has been delivered to all homes with further details.

The council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for this area, Cllr Mark Alcock, said: “The current system only allows citizens to recycle their food waste weekly and their garden waste fortnightly – the switch to weekly collections therefore represents an improvement in service. We hope to see a significant increase in organic waste being collected and recycled in the future.”

The change has been made possible by the opening of a new recycling facility in Rochdale, which allows both food and garden waste to be dealt with together.
