New Landlords For The Swan In Dobcross

The Swan

The Swan in Dobcross, which is one of Saddleworth’s most historic pubs, is going to be under new management from 22 March.

The new landlords and local residents Michael Powis and Tim Newbold will be taking over from Ali McGregor, who has been behind the bar for the past year.

Michael and Tim said: “We are very excited at the prospect of continuing Ali’s good work. The Swan is a very special place and its role at the heart of the community is so important for the village. We will do our very best to keep the spirit of the pub alive.”

They added: “We are doing it because we love Dobcross and truly believe that The Swan should always be at the heart of what makes living here so special.”

Michael and Tim are already well-known to many people in the Dobcross community. Michael has produced the Dobcross Diary for three and a half years and Tim is the current Deputy Chair of the Dobcross Village Community group.

The pub itself was built in 1765 and was once known as The King’s Head. It has been called The Swan since 1859 when the owner of a different Dobcross pub called The Swan, tired of losing trade to The King’s Head, simply bought it and changed the name.

It will be open as usual until 19 March, when it will close for a couple of days. Tim and Michael will then open the doors once again on 22 March.

Becoming a licensee or how to seperate a hard-working couple from their life savings. Times have changed and so have drinking habits.

    Pubcos are property companies.

All the very best to Michael and Tim. As socialites in the community I’m sure it will be a great success and I look forward to using the premises for community projects in the future as one of the Woodend Artists and in my capacity as a photographer and obviously for a drink or two.
