Old Woolpack In Dobcross Likely To Become Private Home

The Old Woolpack.

A quick update on the future of the former Woolpack pub in Dobcross, which in its most recent incarnation was known as The Shambles.

Although the agent involved in the recent sale of the building has declined to confirm or deny the identity of the buyer, I’ve been told by various local sources that a Saddleworth family has purchased it, with the intention of turning it into a private residence.

Council planning committees are often reluctant to allow pubs to become houses. Any application along those lines would have to demonstrate that the building has no realistic future as a pub. But, given the failure of Enterprise Inns to let it to anyone since the last landlord rang last orders back in August, that may not be too difficult.

You can read more about the sale in a Saddleworth News article from earlier this month here.

I’ve heard the Phil Wiggett has bought it- so that’s a private residence split into flats no doubt!

  • Hi there, my understanding is that it’s been bought by a family to live in as their own residence. But I haven’t had this confirmed by the agent, so I don’t have any more information I’m afraid.
