Oldham’s Mayor, Councillor Derek Heffernan and Mayoress Di Heffernan visited Bright Futures School for children with autism in Grasscroft, recently to find out more about the school and the specialist work it does.
Upon arrival, the Mayor and Mayoress were introduced to staff and pupils, then taken on a guided tour of the school by Zoe Thompson, School Proprietor and Head of Development and Alison Hughes, Head of Learning at Bright Futures.
Bright Futures School for children with autism specialises in the provision for children with autism and brings a new approach to autism education. The Bright Futures team focuses on the core difficulties that lie at the heart of autism. These include problems with rigid thinking, managing uncertainty and change, social interaction and understanding and managing emotions.
These are the difficulties that are at the root of the distressed (challenging) behaviour.
The priority at Bright Futures is to support the social and emotional development of children with autism.
