A musician from Greenfield was invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace on Monday night.

Joseph Donmall, who plays the cello, attended a special event, hosted by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, to celebrate young talent in the performing arts.

Joseph currently studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, and was joined at the reception by violinist Farhaan Shah, who is the leader of the Oldham Youth Orchestra.

In a statement released by Oldham Council, Gerard Booth, Director of the Oldham Musical Service, commented: “Joseph and Farhaan have been committed members of the Music Centre for many years.”

He added: “Both are tremendous role models for any youngsters with an interest in pursuing music initially as a hobby and then, perhaps, as a profession.”

You can read more details about the event in the full Oldham Council statement, which is available here.
