Parish Council Chairman Gives Charity Update
The Chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council has given us an update on the charity work he’s been involved with since taking office in May. Cllr Keith Begley, who is serving as Chairman for the first time, is supporting a variety of good causes.
The nominated Chairman’s charities for 2010/11 are Sense, which is the main charity for the deafblind in this country, Alzheimer’s UK, Diabetes UK, Alcohol Concern and Rethink, a charity which helps those suffering from schizophrenia.
Cllr Begley said that several fundraising events have already taken place since May, including a boat trip to Salford Quays, a theatre trip and picnic at Gawsworth Hall, an Ascot Ladies Day at the Old Bell in Delph, a coffee morning and a treasure hunt.
And Cllr Begley revealed there are more events scheduled for the coming weeks: “For August 6 we have organised ‘La Fiesta,’ a South American-themed supper dance with a real Latin American Band. Later in the month we shall hold our Summer Ball on the 20th, which had been postponed because of the World Cup.”
Anyone who’d like more information about those events, or about Cllr Begley’s other charity plans for the year ahead, can contact him and his wife Jenny on 01457 874539.
