Petition to save green belt wildlife and countryside in Saddleworth West grows momentum
On 1st July 2019 Oldham Planning Department passed a new road and 265 new houses in an area that has been identified as both OPOL land and countryside, including wildlife, streams, waterfalls, migrating birds, owls, badgers, reptiles, trees and wildflowers. This was against the wishes of the community who objected to this scheme by over 99% in written objections.
The group ‘Save our Valleys Lees, Springhead and Grotton’ do not accept that this planning application was either impartial, fair, and objections were not taken into consideration.
This scheme will have a substantial negative impact in an area not sufficiently funded to accommodate such a large influx of additional people We are trying to fight this development and raise money for our solicitors to take this to the high court to stop the destruction of the woodland
2100 people have now signed the petition to the UK Secretary of State calling for a transparent independent review. They wish for opposing views to be given equal consideration. The target is 2500. See the petition here.
