Police Put Focus On Lydgate

Lydgate

Local police are making Lydgate the latest centre of their ‘village a month’ initiative. A series of events will take place there this week, aimed at improving public safety in the area.

There’s going to be a community clean-up event supported by Oldham Council, and new benches and a community noticeboard will also be going up in the village. Tonight at St Anne’s Church from 7:30pm, the latest Police and Communities Together meeting will take place, giving residents the chance to meet police officers and councillors and share any concerns they may have.

Other events scheduled for this week include a home security advice session in the car park of the White Hart from 10am tomorrow, and a family fun day starting at 11am on Thursday in the children’s centre at the school.

Lydgate is one of the last of Saddleworth’s villages to benefit from the ‘village a month’ scheme. Local police felt that putting a focus on each village individually would be a good way of getting important public safety messages across, and both the police and councillors have been pleased with how the initiative has worked so far.

Plenty more information about this week in Lydgate, and other local crime issues, is available at the new Oldham Says website here.
