Rishworth School is delighted to have received notice that it has been placed in the top 76 schools in England for Music at GCSE level.
The award has been made by the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) has been made “in recognition of the excellent work you do with music within your school”.
Alastair Gloag, the Headmaster told Saddleworth News: “It is really good to receive this gold award from the Incorporated Society of Musicians. Music is something that we take very seriously at Rishworth and which sits at the very heart of what we want to offer the pupils who attend the school.
“I am very lucky to be the Head of a school where there is such a strong musical tradition, it is lovely to see the dedication and hard work of pupils and staff being recognised.”
Pupils at Rishworth are able to study Music at GCSE and A level and recently saw one of its students graduate from Oxford University with a first class degree.
There are a huge number of opportunities to perform within a wide range of bands and groups that bring together students of all ages.
The news of the award comes at a time when Music is increasingly under threat as many maintained schools across the region and indeed the country, are having to make very tough choices about what they can support as they absorb funding cuts.
