Road Closures In Dobcross And Grasscroft

Two more roads in Saddleworth are going to close temporarily as work to repair retaining walls around our area continues. The roads affected are Ladcastle Road in Dobcross, and Lovers Lane in Grasscroft.

Two different stretches of Ladcastle Road will be affected. Part of the road near the junction with Delph New Road will shut for three months from Monday 13 September. After that work is finished, a section close to Mow Halls Lane will close for an estimated three and a half months.

Lovers Lane is going to be closed between Platting Road and Burnedge Lane, according to an internal council e-mail forwarded to Saddleworth News. That work should take ten days from Monday 27 September.

Meanwhile, in Greenfield, temporary traffic lights are going to be in place on Greenbridge Road for 20 weeks from next Monday. You can read more about some of the closures from the Chronicle here.

Elsewhere in Saddleworth, three other roads have been shut this week because of wall repairs. Church Road in Uppermill has been closed yesterday and today to allow for resurfacing which has followed the wall renovation, and that work should be finished later today. Short stretches of both Carr Lane in Diggle and Gatehead Road in Delph are now closed at the start of 24 weeks of work, and diversions are in place.

All of these works are among 34 similar repair jobs being carried out across the borough of Oldham over the next two years. The government has given Oldham Council £20m for all the repairs, with the council itself spending a further £2.2m.

    Well, it does need doing,
But six and a half months seems like a long time to fix a total of 510 metres of Ladcastle road.

    That’s about 2.5 metres a day
OK, maybe they don’t work seven days a week, and perhaps get Christmas off, so let’s call it 4 metres a day

Just very roughly, if these are 2 of 34 jobs totalling £22.2M then is the total cost for Ladcastle road about £1.3m?
In that case it seems to cost about £2,500 per metre
    Or £10,000 per day
    That does seem rather pricey

I hope they got more than one quote for the job before spending taxpayers money.
