Saddleworth Clarion Cycling Club host the Saddleworth Mountain Time Trial
Saddleworth Mountain Time Trial route
Saddleworth Clarion Cycling Club (SCCC) recently hosted the Saddleworth Mountain Time Trial with a strong field of 65 riders meeting in Saddleworth for a testing 19 mile course that included the climbs of ‘The Isle of Skye’ and ‘Wessenden Head’.
Conditions on the day in May were favourable with the last riders off missing the promised rainfall and all riders benefiting from a slight tail wind on the first climb.
The Ladies race was close with Mossley based Vanessa Whitfield (The Racing Chance Foundation) pipping Rippondens Nicola Mathews (Boot Out breast Cancer CC) for the £100 first prize. The result sees Ness extend her lead in The North West porting Course competition.
Francis Woodcock of Bury Clarion was the first Junior rider home, coming home in 59.37 with Moorside’s Thomas Anchor (Saddleworth Clarion) coming in second.
The £100 first prize in the mens race was taken by Lee Baldwin (Champion System) in 49.07, with ABC Centervilles Louis Szymanski second
and Craig Battersby (Team Chronomaster)in third. The first Saddleworth rider back was Kieran Manchester finishing 7th in an impressive 51.44.
BuxtonCC/Sett Valley Cycles edged Saddleworth Clarion for the team prize with Glossop Kinder Velo filling out the podium
The Clarion are now looking forward to hosting their Father’s day charity challenge ride ‘The Turnpike Challenge’, it is open to all riders and being jointly hosted with The Rotary Club of Saddleworth and is in aid of Prostate Cancer.
