Saddleworth flooding update
Today’s rain has caused more problems around Saddleworth with the worst being at Well-I-Hole, Greenfield.
The Well-I-Hole Road was flooded as the river burst its banks and spilled over onto the flood plain causing flooding on the main road and the farms caravan site. Luckily all the animals and most of the caravans had been taken to higher ground an hour earlier, the flooded road prevented all but the most ambitious drivers from getting through.
As we stood filming one van driver tried to get through at high speed but was stopped in his tracks by the deep water, the van was eventually towed out by a pick up truck.
Another van lost its bumper half way through the flood water with the driver failing to return for it, Saddleworth News salvaged it and placed it behind a farmer’s gate in case the driver wishes to return for it.
A tractor however had no problems at all and provided a spectacle for the crowds that had gathered to watch the mayhem. The flooded road gave motorists a chance to show off their vehicles amphibious capabilities – but not always successfully!
Elsewhere an allotment was flooded near Saddleworth Spiritualist Church but most of the animals had been removed and those that remained, mainly chickens, were all fine.
A cricket pitch was also flooded.
Dobcross New Road at Delph was slightly flooded and Delph New Road at Dobcross remained quite clear thankfully, saving householders from a repeat of the other weeks flooding.
We have no other reports of serious flooding or any injuries to the public, more rain is expected in the next few hours.
