Saddleworth Independent To Continue Under New Publisher

The new publisher of the Saddleworth Independent has confirmed the newspaper will continue to operate as normal, after the company which first established the Independent titles went into administration.
Bolton-based Select Travel Media has said it will oversee all of the Independent papers across the north-west, including the Saddleworth Independent.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Big Spark Publishing, which set up the first Independent paper in Cheshire in 2009, had hit financial trouble.
Big Spark established a firm called Investors In Publishing to publish the Independent titles, and owned half of it, with the other half belonging to distributor Self Select.
The new company, Select Travel Media, is wholly owned by Self Select, and has taken on Big Spark’s various publications, including the Independent papers, as well as its series of travel, airport and other magazines.
The Saddleworth Independent first appeared a year ago. Edited by local freelance journalist and PR consultant Ken Bennett, it is a free paper which is published once a month.
Along with all of the other Independent papers, it focuses on a mixture of local advertising, and ‘good news’ stories about the community. Other Independent titles cover areas such as Bury, Bolton and Stockport.
