Saddleworth News and Life involved in nationwide “Pass the Parcel”

Reporter: Judith Grinter

Saddleworth News and Life has recently been part of a chain of tweeters passing a parcel all around the country.

An avid tweeter, @FromBooToYou, who lives just outside Birmingham, decided to organise a massive “Pass the Parcel” game.  She hopes it will take her parcel as far around the UK as possible and involve as many of her followers as possible. She tracks it with communication from the ‘Passers’ on twitter and watching where it is moving around the country on a map.  Anonymous tweeter @Bootoyou has been amazed at how far it has already travelled.

Each Passer takes off a layer of wrapping paper and receives a small token and then writes about their part in the chain in a log book. So far the parcel has travelled some distance in the south, London, Bristol, Oxford, and was then brought further north by a Bury tweeter that was returning from a short break.

Saddleworth News and Life collected the parcel from the holidaying tweeter and then, whilst being patient with the snowy weather, eventually passed it on to a tweeter from Sheffield. We found that not only were tweeters removing a layer of the package but also adding to the bundle with a small gift that represents them in some way. The game then grows as tweeters have the fun of identifying the gift and matching it to the Passers.

@FromBooToYou hopes it will travel further north and would like to see it in Scotland at some point before it returns to her.

If you are a tweeter and would like to join in the game, please follow @FromBooToYou on twitter and follow the progress of the slowly diminishing parcel although increasingly growing package.
