Saddleworth North Hustings Debate Tonight

A polling station in Dobcross on by-election day in January.

A reminder that the four candidates for the Saddleworth North ward on Oldham Council are to take part in a debate at the Swan pub in Dobcross tonight.

All members of the public are invited to attend the hustings, which will take place upstairs with a 7:30pm start. The event will finish by 9pm at the latest.

The debate will take place in the traditional Question Time-style format, so those in the audience will be able to ask questions of the candidates.

Liberal Democrat Derek Heffernan is hoping to retain the seat. He’s up against Independent candidate Ken Hulme, Phil Sewell of the Conservatives, and Labour’s Sean Fielding.

Besides Dobcross, the Saddleworth North ward also covers Denshaw, Delph, Diggle, Austerlands and Scouthead. The discussion will focus on local issues relevant to those villages, and no doubt it’ll be a lively evening!

(Editor’s note: I’ll be chairing the debate)
