See you through the advent window….

Uppermill Advent Calendar will be happening again for its 7th year, and this year we are expecting it to be bigger and better than ever!

Erica Ryan tells us about her project:

The windows will begin on the 1st at Uppermill Methodist Centre and the St Chad’s Parish Centre on Lee Street, we have members of the Uppermill Scouts and Guides groups taking part and we are delighted that Saddleworth Museum will be joining us again, as well as our friends at Oliviccio.

Just like a regular Advent Calendar, we reveal a new window each day (sometimes more than one, which is exciting!) and each window is lit from 4-9pm. One revealed every window is on show until the calendar ends on Twelfth Night, the traditional end of Christmas. This provides plenty of opportunity for people to walk around once all the windows are fully lit.

As in previous years, most of the windows will be in private houses, and we are always looking for more people who would like to take part.  People who are interested can contact the Calendar via its Facebook, Instagram or twitter accounts or by emailing saddleworthcommunityprojects@gmail.com.

We encourage people to be creative and inventive in their window design, and a lot of the advent calendar’s charm lies in its variety. We are delighted that this is one Christmas tradition that can continue as in previous years as everything takes place outside, and it can provide a great focus for some winter walks.  Once everything is finalised the map will be downloadable from the Uppermill Advent Facebook page, or from www.scp-cic.weebly.com.

As the organiser, I love the excitement of arranging another year. Knowing that people are all working together (in our own homes) to create something to share with other people. I feel that the calendar is something really special, much more than the sum of its parts, and I am very grateful to all the window creators who help to make my dream come true.
