A Saddleworth musician has been helping to raise funds for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Oldham with a marathon guitar playing session.

Kieran McMahon, from Springhead, successfully completed his attempt to play his guitar for more than 100 hours non stop after starting the challenge on Saturday 19 July from his home. He continued on Tuesday 22 July at the ‘Open Mic Night’ at The Delph Club in Delph, and finished on Tuesday 24 July at The Spinners Arms pub in Springhead.

So far he has raised more than £1,400 for the hospice and his Just Giving site donations are increasing daily.

Kieran told Saddleworth News: “I successfully finished the challenge and have managed to raise a decent amount of money so far for Dr Kershaw’s hospice. I would like to thank all those who helped me including family and friends, and all those people that have donated money and the pubs and clubs involved.

“All the money raised collectively will be handed straight to Dr. Kershaw’s Hospice more over the money donated online is put straight into the charities account directly. Kershaw’s solely rely on donations to run the place and the kind additions can help bring an extra bit of love to those in need of it.

“My beautiful mum passed away there a few years back and in her last days they gave her that extra comfort and care to make those final days battling with cancer a bit more bearable. I loved my mum more than anything and I still do, other people will have to face and go through what my family did and with a small donation it can make such a massive difference so please give generously as little or as much as you can.

“Make sure you tick the gift aid box for an extra 20% added on to the donation.”
