Steve plans to take on riding Manchester to Blackpool with your help

I’m Steven O’Neill, a Chrstie Cancer Hospital patient who has recently been able to ring the bell having completed my treatment for bowel cancer not long ago. I have now decided that i want to give something back to the hospital, so I’m taking on the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride.

The Christie Hospital is such a humbling place to have to attend, it’s here that you realise how widespread and unforgiving cancer really is. I can tell you now, it’s a daunting prospect to have to undertake chemotherapy, however the staff at The Christie are simply marvellous, with each and every one of them taking time to sooth nerves, allay fears and attend to every problem that you may have. These people do such miraculous things all year round, not just in times of crisis such as we’ve faced recently, and they should never be forgotten.

So here I am, 18 months later, having taken up cycling again during lockdown and aiming to complete Manchester to Blackpool bike ride on 13th September 2020. I’m hoping to raise a few quid to just say thanks and maybe contribute to the spectacular research programme that will save many other people like myself. The Christie Hospital is not just a local Manchester hospital, they are at the forefront of national and international cancer research, pioneering new treatments such as Proton Beam therapy, T-Cell therapy and just generally improving the affects of chemotherapy.”

I live in Grasscroft and will be training through Saddleworth plus wider Greater Manchester areas wearing my bespoke designed campaign shirt.
