Stratospheric exam success for Saddleworth pupils at Rishworth School
Reporter: Stuart Littleford
A number of students living in Saddleworth and who attended Rishworth School in the last academic year, have achieved some outstanding results in the recent round of public examinations this year. Results for the School at both GCSE and A Level have been extremely good indeed.
At A level there was a 99% pass rate and a phenomenal 80% of all papers achieved a C grade or higher. At GCSE, the level of achievement bucked the national trend and increased, with students achieving a record number of A*- A and nearly 90% 5 A*- C grades, which is more than 30% higher than the national average and not far short of some of its selective grammar school competitors.
Whilst these global statistics are impressive it is the individual stories that really count and some of the achievements of Saddleworth students have been outstanding with one girl amassing 7 A* and 3 A grades in her overall tally.
Following the A level results, one local student has secured a place on Sheffield University’s highly competitive Materials Science and Engineering Degree whilst another declined an unconditional offer to study Aviation at Oxford University with a view to pursuing his interest in Ocean Science and Marine Conservation on what is recognised to be one of the leading degree courses of its kind in the world at Plymouth University.
Headmaster, Alastair Gloag, said: “Rishworth is and will always be a non-selective educational setting that wants to provide as many opportunities for the children who study here to find their talents and interests and pursue them whatever they are.
“The School has had a long association with Saddleworth and it goes without saying that we are extremely proud of the achievements of all of our students and their fantastic teachers.”
Rishworth School will be holding Open Events to showcase what they offer in October and November.
