Teenage boy died following collision in Hyde

Investigators are appealing for information after a teenage boy died following a motorway collision in Hyde.

At 5.25pm yesterday (Friday 1 December 2017) police were called to Junction 3 of the M67 to reports that a boy was unconscious on the hard shoulder.

On arrival, officers discovered the teenager in a critical condition and he was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

It has been established that a grey convertible BMW was driving eastbound when it was involved in a collision with the teenager who was in the carriageway.

The motorway was closed for several hours while officers carried out forensic and reconstruction work.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, from GMP’s Serious Collision Unit, is appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw anything beforehand that could help the investigation.

He said: “My thoughts are with the victim’s family who are being looked after by specially trained officers at this difficult time.

“While we work to uncover how this happened and piece together the moments before the collision, I’m asking for the public to help in any way they can.

“If you were in the area that evening and saw a pedestrian on the motorway, or have dash-cam images, please get in touch and share this information.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 or 101, quoting incident number 1482 01/12/17. This can also be done anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
