Tree Festival is on until the end of January

St Thomas’ Church in Lees has a great display of Christmas trees that will be open to the public until the end of January.

At the risk of seeming ignorant of the traditions of churches, I asked Karen Jakeman, spokesperson for St Thomas’, was it not bad luck to keep Christmas decorations up after 12th Night?

“Not at all – In the church calendar Christmas doesn’t finish till February. We started the festival on 7th December and decided to continue it throughout January.

“It’s not until Monday 6th January that the 3 kings arrived at the scene of the birth of Jesus. The 6th January is celebrated more in Europe than here but we do mark it in our church calendar.”

The Festival is open to the public Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10.30 until 1pm and during Church Services until 25th January.
