Trees to be removed at Moorgate Quarry

Trees are overgrowing the heather at Moorgate Quarry and in order to enhance the habitat for moorland wildlife the trees need to be removed.

The event is part of Oldham Council’s Countryside Service’s Winter Events Programme.

Discover the ground flora and help it recover and flourish. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring a packed lunch and a drink.

Countryside Staff will show attendees what to do and will provide tools and all the information needed to undertake the work in a safe fashion.

Moorgate Quarry is a Site of Biological Importance (SBI). The work will enhance this standing and diversify the opportunities for wildlife further. It is also used for recreational purposes and the two needs require managing.

The event takes place on Sunday, November 4 from 10.30am until 4pm. Meet at Brownhill Countryside Centre, Wool Road, Dobcross.

For more information contact Doug Murray, Countryside Officer, on 01457 872598 or 07718785136 or Charles Baillie, Apprentice Range, on 07925857896.
