Two Big Events Coming Up For Saddleworth Cyclists
Riders from the Saddleworth Clarion Cycling Club have a couple of important dates next week, and are keen for local people to get involved by either joining in or showing their support.
On Tuesday 30 August, some members of the club will be taking part in Ride The Lights in Blackpool. It’s an opportunity for cyclists young and old, and of various standards, to ride together along the seafront.
Keener club cyclists will be riding all the way there, before meeting other riders and family members at Blackpool for a fish and chip supper before the ride. Non-club members are more than welcome to go along.
Details of the event are available from Cycle Blackpool here.
Then, on Sunday 4 September, Saddleworth Clarion hosts a hillclimb event on the old Huddersfield Road in Diggle. It’s part of the Beard Cup, and features local riders from Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Cyclists race up the hill from the start point near Sam Road one by one, with the three best times for each club counting in the final standings.
Blackburn have held the trophy for 13 years. Saddleworth, second last time, are keen to knock them off their perch this year!
Supporters are encouraged to go down and watch the action, which begins at 1pm.
More information is available at the Saddleworth Clarion website here. Past Saddleworth News articles about the club are here.
