Uppermill Cyclist Raising Money For British Heart Foundation

Robert Newton

A Saddleworth cyclist will be getting on his bike in aid of a good cause later this month. Robert Newton of Uppermill will be raising money for the British Heart Foundation when he takes on a 36-mile ride in Sherwood Forest on Sunday 16 October.

Robert explained to Saddleworth News that he was taking on the ride after a close friend underwent heart bypass surgery earlier this year.

He said: “He is now well on the way to a full recovery and this is my way of saying thank you on his behalf.”

As part of his preparations, Robert has been taking part in recent cycling events linked to Sky’s sponsorship of British cycling, including the Manchester Sky Ride when much of the city centre was closed to traffic for the day.

Robert also got onto two wheels during the South Pennine Walk and Ride Festival, which took place last month. Here’s hoping he’s fully prepared for his ride around Robin Hood country!

If you’d like to know more about Robert and donate to his appeal, you can do so by visiting his fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving here.

It’s also worth flagging up the Oldham Community Leisure scheme to encourage people to get cycling, called Activ8 Oldham, which can be found online here.
