Uppermill Parking Public Meeting On Tuesday

One of the signs giving details of the parking time limits.

A reminder that the public meeting organised to hear views about parking matters in Uppermill takes place at the Civic Hall this coming Tuesday, that’s 26 July, with a 7:30pm start.

Last month, Saddleworth Parish Council agreed to hold the meeting, so residents, business owners and others could discuss the impact of the time limits imposed on most of the village car parks earlier this year. Anyone is welcome to attend and have their say.

Members of the Saddleworth and Lees District Partnership have been invited to the meeting, along with the relevant member of the Oldham Council Cabinet.

Few issues have aroused as much local debate in the past few months as parking in Uppermill, and it flared up again during a lively Parish Council meeting last month. Residents of Lee Street told councillors that drivers were effectively using their street as an all-day car park, now that time restrictions had been placed on most of the public car parks.

The public meeting is being held ahead of a review of the restrictions, due to be carried out in September by Oldham Council. The aim of this meeting is, in part, to make sure various local views are heard before that review takes place.

Time limits were brought in back in February, in an attempt to prevent drivers hogging spaces in the village car parks for days at a time. Two and three-hour limits are now in place, although the car park at the leisure centre remains long-stay. Other Saddleworth News articles about the issue can be found here.
