Uppermill Singer Progresses In National Competition

Rachel Leah Stock

A signing hopeful from Saddleworth has made it through to the regional finals of a national singing competition.

Rachel Leah Stock, 19, has got through the first round of auditions in the Open Mic UK contest.

Thousands of would-be stars entered the competition, and Rachel is one of a select few to have made it through the initial stage.

She’ll now perform at the next heat in Dewsbury on 16 October, with places in the national final at London’s 02 up for grabs.

In an e-mail to Saddleworth News, Rachel said: “It’s such a fantastic opportunity. I’m really excited to go out there and give it all I’ve got!”

The contest already has a pedigree of producing top talent. The inaugural winner from the 2008 event, singer/songwriter Birdy, recently had a top 20 hit with a cover of the Bon Iver classic Skinny Love (you can watch her video on YouTube here).

So it’s good luck to Rachel! And if you’d like to share a story with Saddleworth News readers, you can get in touch by clicking Contact at the top of the page, or by e-mailing editor@saddleworthnews.com
