Here’s the display which won Brighouse and Rastrick the Whit Friday band contest in Dobcross. Their version of Knight Templar was judged the best of the 57 performances during the six-hour competition at Church Fields.

Leyland, who played much later in the evening, were ranked second, with the Marsden Silver band third. That was also enough to secure Marsden the prize for best local band. Diggle, who opened the contest shortly before 4:30pm, were named the top Saddleworth performers.

Delph cornet player Laura Hirst, who last year became the first woman to join the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, was among those under the command of conductor Professor David King. Brighouse and Rastrick are the current national and Yorkshire champions.

Results from the Saddleworth contests are being added to a page on the 4 Bars Rest website here, as they become available.
