We found Diggle Wiggle Pit!!

Heidi Flack and myself met this morning for a challenge to find the Diggle Wiggle Pit mentioned in Patrick Bell’s recent article here – What is the Diggle Wiggle Pit?

I’ve recently connected up with Heidi Flack on social media. She lives in Uppermill and is walking, in a virtual way, the distance of Route 66. This is her walking and running 2280 miles. She estimates this will take her just under 12 months to complete. She’s already 50 days ahead of herself so she can see her self managing the challenge easily. Walking the hills reservoir, and canal in our area are making her exercise a joy.

We started out from the Church Inn, above Uppermill, walked up Running Hill Lane and eventually, by dodging quite a few large puddles and sheep poo piles, came across the quarries mentioned in Patrick’s article.

Somehow we stumbled across the entrance to the Wiggle Pit, quickly grabbing the dog before he decided to investigate and disappear. I have recollections of such a thing happening in an Enid Blyton book – any ideas?

We had trouble in finding a path that took us down to Diggle; we had visions of supping hot chocolate at Grandpa Greene’s before making our way back to the Church Inn. Sadly this will have to wait for another day. It was a great day for walking, cool and dry but not too bright.

I wish Heidi all the best with her Route 66 walking and hopefully this will be the first of many walks we take together.

Heidi is fundraising money for TOG MIND by promoting the challenge of her Route 66 virtual challenge on social media. If you wish to follow her progress please either follow her on Twitter @HeidiJaneT2 or her updates on the Walk for Life page on Facebook.
