Whit Cricket Success For Saddleworth Over Greenfield

Saddleworth made it four victories out of four over local rivals Greenfield over the weekend, as they won both the first and second XI matches on Whit Friday, and repeated the feat in the return fixtures the following day.

With this report, Graham Oldham:

ON FRIDAY AT LADHILL LANE, Greenfield were bowled out for 79. Professional Peter Skuse took 5/38 and Ryan McGrath claimed 3/37, James Rothwell scoring 40 for the home side. Saddleworth passed the total for the loss of three wickets, Ben Willis scoring 34 not out off just 13 balls

On Saturday at Well-i-Hole Greenfield again batted first and this time were bowled out for 154, Alex Peters top scoring with 38. Skuse made it a 12 wicket weekend taking 7/52 off 21 overs. In reply Saddleworth lost openers Hague (19) and Jones (32) before a stand of 81 between that man Skuse (60 not out) and skipper Steve Howard (32 not out) saw Saddleworth home by eight wickets.

In the Second XI match at Well-i-Hole on Friday, nine man Greenfield scored 234 – 7, with Needham scoring 90 and Dearden making 66. Saddleworth made heavy weather of the reply, but thanks to 57 from 15-year-old Ben Corbett, 39 from Dave Ward and the tail wagging they scraped home by one wicket.

There were no such problems on Saturday at Ladhill Lane as the ten-man home side were bowled out for 70, Bradley Hadfield taking 3/16, and the runs were knocked off for the loss of two wickets.

Many thanks to Graham for the article. The victories have lifted Saddleworth’s firsts to 4th in the Saddleworth League table, just two points behind 2nd place.
