Come along to our free event and find out more about our local plants and animals and the organisations which study and help conserve them.

Experts will be available to help you discover wildlife on our own doorstep.

There will be an amazing display of live owls in the Gallery garden and you can try mini-beast hunting, have a go at bird-watching and make a bird feeder…..and of course there will be face-painting.

This event is linked to Gallery Oldham’s exhibition ‘Worn to be Wild’, created by dress designer and textile artist Kate Plumtree. Her inspiration for the exhibition is the unusual combination of British wild birds and mammals and the evolution of period dress. This exhibition also features taxidermy from the Gallery’s own collections.

This activity is being supported by the British Ecological Society, the UK’s academic society supporting the science of ecology.

During 2013 the British Ecological Society will be celebrating its centenary with a series of events, conferences and publications that aim to increase the profile of ecological science among scientists and the public.

Wild about Oldham Day is part of the Festival of Ecology, a public focussed nationwide celebration of ecological science with over sixty participating institutions across the UK. The Festival will run from 15 June – 4 August 2013.

Professor Georgina Mace FRS, President of the British Ecological Society said, “The British Ecological Society is delighted to be working with Gallery Oldham in celebrating our Centenary year.

“This event is part of our Festival of Ecology through which visitors can learn more about the science of ecology and how this science helping to understanding the challenges we face in the world today.”

The event will be held on Saturday, June 15, from 11am to 4pm.
