Retreating in Saddleworth for Cancer Patients
Another great exercise retreat was delivered by Jo Taylor, from After Breast Cancer Diagnosis based in Diggle, for 11 breast cancer patients over the weekend. Primary and secondary breast cancer patients are supported by abcdiagnosis who come together from all over the UK and Ireland to attend these unique weekends. Jo created a motivational retreat where people come to have time together with other patients in a supportive exercise role as well as peer to peer support.
Jogging, cycling and Nordic walking are provided by Saddleworth based Uprojects, Iyengar yoga by Yoga Yourself – both local businesses, as well as Old Mill Therapies from Holmfirth that provide holistic therapies.
Four retreats have been completed this year and another arranged for October which will be Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The message from Jo’s recent TEDx talk in Oldham is that exercise is a drug – it helps primary and secondary breast cancer patients and also the awareness not just to check your breasts after a primary diagnosis but the risk of secondary breast cancer with the infographics that you can find Jo’s website www.abcdiagnosis.co.uk as well as information on the retreats.
