Local police seized alcohol from underage drinkers in Dobcross and Uppermill on Friday night, following reports of incidents of anti-social behaviour.

According to officers from the Saddleworth and Lees police team, most of the problems were in Dobcross, although “large groups” of youths also congregated in Uppermill.

Booze was confiscated and teenagers had their details taken by police. Officers poured away any alcohol found in open containers.

A police statement said: “We are working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour with extra officers on patrol, dispersing large groups of youths and taking down details.”

It continued: “Where necessary we are informing and advising parents of what their children have been doing over the weekend period, even taking youths home to their parents when needed. These youths are referred to the Anti-Social Behaviour Officer and the referral letters are hand delivered to the parents.”

You can get up-to-date information from the Saddleworth and Lees police team at their website here, or from their Twitter feed here. You can ring them directly by calling the Uppermill office number 0161 856 4525.

In an emergency, always dial 999. But out of hours, the best number to use for non-emergencies is 0161 872 5050.
