New Clinic Expected In Delph
The temporary building which currently houses the health clinic in Delph is likely to be replaced with a permanent structure somewhere in the village.
Mark Drury from NHS Oldham told last week’s meeting of the Saddleworth and Lees District Partnership at Diggle Band Club, that a “proper new build” might begin a year from now, although he didn’t put a date on when any new facility could be ready.
He said health officials had looked at replacing the current hut with another similar structure, but had decided that a proper building would be more cost-effective in the long-term. He added that a new building wouldn’t necessarily be on the same site as the current one on Gartside Street.
Cllr Mike Buckley, who represents the area on the borough council and is also Oldham’s Heritage Champion, said he was “delighted” at the prospect of a new building. But added: “I would ask that you do respect it as a conservation area… and consider putting something of quality up.”
Cllr Alan Roughley echoed that view, and suggested that natural stone and a slate roof ought to be used in the construction of any new clinic. He also said: “Don’t ignore the possibility of using an existing building.”
Mr Drury also revealed that three new rooms will soon be available for clinical use at the GP practice in Uppermill. He said some back office functions were being moved elsewhere, freeing up the space for doctors and patients.
