This week’s report on Austerlands cricket from Neil Cadd focuses on the club’s second eleven. As always, thanks to Neil for the article and the pictures!

The second team made the trip to Droylsden hoping to pick up much needed points against the league’s basement boys.

With a weakened team, Droylsden won the toss and elected to bat. Tom Green and Phil Mayall were soon amongst the wickets though. Droylsden found themselves at 7/3 after eight overs and things didn’t get much better, although the experienced Tipping did steady the ship for a while, but failed to score many runs.

They were soon 29/5, and the experienced Rob Hanson replaced Green at the car park end and mopped up the tail, finishing with three wickets. Droylsden were 43 all out, veteran Mayall picking up four wickets.

If Austerlands thought they were going to have it their own way they were soon made to think again, finding themselves 2/1 Adams and Fielding not troubling the scorer and the one run coming from a leg bye. In came man of the moment Hanson who bludgeoned his way to 33 in a stand of 45 with captain Barnes.

The game was all over by 4:15pm and it was time for tea, perhaps not the greatest match ever played but securing 22 points was the objective so job done.

Tipping leaves one from Tom Green.

Big shout from Austerlands captain Barnes.

Rob Hanson took three wickets and scored 33 not out for Austerlands.
