Bee Happy in Greenfield

Earlier in the year I caught the Council digging up the grass in Greenfield and on asking was told that they were preparing the ground for a meadow. I’ve walked past these areas during lockdown and have watched them grow. To start with they appeared to be just weeds and I’d seen many a walker and cyclist walk right through them. But for the last month we have been rewarded with a beautiful display of wild flowers.

This morning in the sunshine I was moved to capture them, buzzing and humming with bees and insects. What a wonderful way to use the land and to encourage the local insects.

Well done to the community group – Greenfield Street Scene – for organising a beautiful display that should last for years to come. The area was ploughed and prepared by Oldham Council, and the seeds donated by Greenfield Street Scene.
