Canal passenger boats taken away for winter maintenance

Two passenger boats from the Marsden Visitors Centre in Marsden, were recently taken through the Standedge canal tunnel and along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal to Wool Road in Dobcross, in order for them to be lifted out of the water for repairs.
They were moved from Marsden due to the historic nature of that site which is unsuitable for crane use.
On Monday they were taken by low loader down to Leicester where they will undergo an extensive winter maintenance programme which will include a repaint, new lighting and new panels for the glass roof.
While there, they will also undergo a safety inspection by the Maritime Coastguard Agency which is an important aspect to ensure compliance with their safety standards.
The Canal and River Trust hope to have the boats back in time for the new season in spring 2016, looking brand new and ready to carry visitors through the tunnel once again.
