Charity Garden Party Planned For Uppermill

A traditional English garden party is going to be held in Uppermill later this month. The event, which will raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, is to take place at the Conservative Club in Uppermill on the afternoon of Sunday 25 July.

The event is being organised by new local business Sugar Junction. They’ll be laying on homemade cakes and scones with tea, along with entertainment including a magician, face painting, tombola and a cupcake decorating competition.

Sugar Junction is run by Sue Taylor from Uppermill and Georgina Speight, who is originally from Denshaw but now lives in Altrincham. Their company provides vintage-themed tea parties for events ranging from small house parties to birthday celebrations to weddings. They were inspired to start their business when they realised they had a share love of all things vintage, from decor to baking.

Sue says they’re able to “transform your venue with bunting, vintage table cloths, original china tea cups and saucers, tea pots, and music whilst serving a selection of scrumptious homebaked cakes, dainty sandwiches and the perfect cup of tea.”

Sue and Georgina can also be found at the farmers’ market and craft fayre in Denshaw Village Hall, which takes place on the afternoon of every third Saturday of the month. They’ve also recently bought a 1960s caravan to which they aim to give a vintage makeover, so they can use it to attend outside fairs.
