Delph And Dobcross Suffer Kirkburton Setback

Delph and Dobcross saw their lead in cricket’s Huddersfield League cut to two points on Saturday, as they were beaten at home by second-placed Kirkburton.

After being put in to bat, Delph and Dobcross started well with openers Irfan Zahoor and Bruce Cruse putting on a century stand for the first wicket.

But things started to go wrong when professional Bilal Khiljee was run out without scoring, and with wickets falling regularly, D&D were ultimately restricted to 237/9 from their 50 overs.

Kirkburton also enjoyed a century opening partnership, courtesy of Andy Smith and captain Matthew Wood. Although Arron Lilley impressed by taking four wickets, the visitors eventually reached their target for five wickets down in the 29th over.

A report and scorecard is available at the Delph and Dobcross website here.

With third-placed Honley also securing five points at the weekend, the top three in the table are now just separated by three points, with Delph and Dobcross on 92, Kirkburton 90 and Honley 89. Next weekend’s match between D&D and Honley could prove decisive at season’s end. The table can be viewed here.
